Your FGFD is in the process of updating our community’s Pre Plan. As part of the process, we will be visiting all the public buildings in the Glade, along with businesses along Peavine, all the way to the Fairfield Towne Centre Mall including Food City. “So. is this an inspection?” NO IT IS NOT AN INSPECTION. So, if it’s not an inspection, what is a Pre Plan?
Fire safety is a paramount concern for any community, and a well-structured Pre Plan program is crucial for a fire department to effectively respond to emergencies. The Pre Plan program involves detailed preparation and planning to ensure firefighters have the necessary information to combat fires and other emergencies efficiently and safely.
The primary objectives of a Pre Plan program are:
· Risk Assessment: Identifying potential hazards and risks in buildings and facilities.
· Resource Allocation: Ensuring that adequate resources, such as personnel, equipment, and water supply, are available.
· Strategic Planning: Developing specific response strategies for different types of emergencies.
· Coordination: Facilitating effective communication and coordination among various emergency services.
So, what’s included in the Pre Plan?
Building Surveys
Conducting surveys of buildings and facilities to gather critical information such as layout, construction materials, occupancy types, and potential hazards. This includes identifying locations of fire alarms, sprinkler systems, exits, and utility shutoffs.
Hazard Identification
Identifying specific hazards within buildings, such as flammable materials, hazardous chemicals, and structural weaknesses. This allows firefighters to develop tailored strategies for addressing these risks.
Mapping and Documentation
Creating detailed maps and documents that outline the key features of buildings and facilities. These maps include satellite views, floor plans, access points, hydrant locations, and other essential information.
This process doesn’t end with the initial visit. Once completed, the Pre Plan is used for training fire department personnel. Being familiar with the plan for each structure saves time when responding. Your FGFD regularly reviews and updates the Pre Plan program based on feedback from training sessions, actual incidents, and changes in building codes or community infrastructure. Continuous improvement ensures that the program remains effective and relevant. These Pre Plans are loaded into tablet devices and carried aboard each of our trucks.
Your Fairfield Glade Fire Department’s Pre Plan program is a vital component of fire safety and emergency response. By conducting thorough risk assessments, developing strategic response plans, and ensuring continuous training and improvement, your FGFD can significantly enhance our preparedness and effectiveness during emergencies. Investing in a robust Pre Plan program is essential for safeguarding the community and ensuring the safety of all involved.
So, be on the lookout for a call from our Pre Plan team to plan a visit to your business. Your cooperation is vital to the success of the program.
