Kress, Wehrmann honored as FGFD Firefighter of the Year

This past Friday, December 12^th, your FGFD held its annual holiday banquet to honor many of its members for service and dedication to the community. Special thanks go to Father Michael Woods and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for their generosity in providing their banquet hall for our pot-luck event. This year was a special year as the coveted “Firefighter of the Year” award was bestowed on two firefighters, Lieutenant Tom Kress and Deputy Chief/Training Officer Kurt Wehrmann. These two gentlemen went above and beyond in supporting the efforts of the department and in responding to the needs of the community. Tom Kress, in addition to responding to over 170 calls, the highest in the department, also led a team to conduct site surveys of the more than 70 public buildings and businesses in Fairfield Glade. Kurt Wehrmann’s dedication to the education of our first responders is unprecedented. His library of knowledge, gleaned from his more than 30 years as a professional firefighter, makes him the perfect candidate to teach our first responders. Kurt spends countless hours every week preparing training materials and holding training sessions, to keep our first responders ready to attack any emergency. Congratulations to them both for jobs well done!
