Yesterday, July 14th at 4:13 PM, your FGFD responded to a call of a fire on Lisa Lane in Fairfield Glade. Upon arrival the first responders were confronted with fire and smoke in the living room area of the home. The owners were in the process of stripping floors using an acetone chemical. Apparently, a floor lamp fell and ignited the wet acetone. The fire had made its way inside a wall, headed to the attic. Firefighters were quick to knock down the fire and ensured that it had not traveled any further than the source area.
Using flammable chemicals to strip wall and floor coatings can be dangerous when adequate precautions are not in place.
If you find yourself having to use them, be sure the work area is well ventilated and free from any ignition sources such as unshaded lights or electrical devices that could create sparks.
A few moments spent planning can go a long way to preventing disastrous outcomes.
