Fallen Firefighter Memorial

Each year, thousands attend the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation official national tribute to all firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.

This year’s memorial was held May 3rd and 4th in Emmitsburg, MD. Proudly representing your FGFD at the event was our chaplain Clyde Angel who is a captain in the Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains, TFFC.

This solemn national tribute honors 140 firefighters who died in the line of duty—70 who died in 2024 and 70 from previous years. “This weekend is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary courage and commitment of those who put their lives on the line to protect others,” said Troy Markel, Chair of the NFFF Board of Directors. “We come together not only to remember the fallen, but to stand in solidarity with their families and departments, letting them know their loved ones will never be forgotten. Each of these 140 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others – a profound sacrifice that defines true heroism, Markel stated.

Your Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains brought 12 “R.E.S.T”, (Rehab Emergency Support Trailers), trailers to the event for use by the Fallen Hero Families, Firefighters from across the nation, Volunteers, Staff and other attendees.

We would like to thank Christ Lutheran Church of Fairfield Glade for generously providing Chaplain Angel with his travel funds for this event.

The members of your FGFD proudly extend our gratitude to Clyde for representing us and our everlasting gratitude to the families of the fallen heroes.
